Ampwood aluminium battens are designed to replicate the natural appearance of timber while offering the strength, durability, and low-maintenance benefits of powder-coated aluminium.
Lightweight yet robust, Ampwood is suitable for a wide range of architectural applications, including: Garage doors, Building facades, Gates & Decorative screening/fencing applications.
Ampwood profiles feature a 25mm, 40mm or 50mm depth, with widths available in 25mm, 40mm, and 50mm.
Now available in 50x50 mm and 40x40 mm profiles, Ampwood battens offer even greater flexibility for modern architectural design.
Ampwood battens and bases are supplied in 4.2 metre and 6.5 metre lengths.
During the powder coating/Sublimination process, aluminium extrusions are suspended from both ends to allow for even coating and proper curing.
Because of this, a small section at each end—typically around 80–100mm—is used for hanging and may not receive full coverage or may show minor surface marks. These sections are
considered non-usable for visible or finished applications, and we recommend allowing for this when calculating your required lengths.
- Use protective padding when stacking, storing, or transporting battens to prevent abrasion or surface damage.
- Avoid dragging components across hard surfaces or each other—lift and place gently.
- Ensure tools and fasteners do not contact finished surfaces directly. Use soft blocks, cloths, or protective sleeves when working near coated
areas.
⚠ Important: Surface damage caused by improper handling may void finish warranties and compromise visual quality. Always handle with care.
Ampwood aluminium battens, like all extruded aluminium products, expand and contract with temperature fluctuations.
Proper installation must accommodate this movement to prevent
distortion, buckling, or finish damage.
- Maintain correct spacing between battens to allow for thermal movement - Leave a minimum 3–5 mm gap at each end of the batten to accommodate expansion.
This prevents compression, bowing, or buckling during temperature changes.
- Avoid rigid or overly tight fittings that restrict movement
- Store battens flat and shaded: Avoid direct sun exposure before installation to prevent premature expansion.
Ampwood battens are designed for external decorative use, they are water-resistant—not waterproof. Proper substrate preparation is essential to ensure long-term performance and
compliance.
Ampwood’s powder-coated and sublimated surfaces resist moisture and UV exposure, but do not form a waterproof barrier.
- Battens must be installed over a fully waterproof substrate (e.g. properly sealed wall wrap or membrane)
- Battens must not be relied upon to seal or protect the underlying structure from water ingress.
- To promote airflow and prevent moisture buildup behind Ampwood battens, 15mm top hats are recommended when installing over external substrates.
⚠ Compliance Note
Top hats must be installed over a fully waterproof and compliant substrate. Ampwood battens are decorative and do not provide weatherproofing or structural support.
⚠ Installation Notes
Failure to install over a compliant waterproof substrate may result in water damage, mould risk, or non-compliance with building codes.
Always verify substrate integrity before
batten installation.
Ampwood timberlook aluminium battens are decorative and non-load-bearing. They are designed for aesthetic applications such as screening, cladding, and façade detailing.
⚠ Important Installation Note
- Ampwood battens are not engineered to support structural loads.
- Do not use battens as framing, bracing, or load-bearing elements.
- All fixing methods must maintain the batten’s decorative function without imposing structural loads.
- Battens must be fixed to a compliant waterproof substrate or framing system that provides all necessary structural support.
Misuse of Ampwood battens in structural applications may result in failure, non-compliance, or voided warranties.
